when Spring arrives
the world begins to
stir and stretch and
slowly emerge
Mother Nature trades her
icy white gown for a fresh, leafy green frock
children emerge from their dens,
blinking and squinting
into the almost-forgotten
sunshine
but memories soon return
bikes are retrieved
tires are pumped
balls of all kinds are rounded up
sunglasses are donned
flowers start peeking
but soon emerge triumphant
gloriously parading their
enviable, colourful dresses
throughout the gardens
so joyous are the flowers,
they refuse to be contained
sending their tender green limbs
where they can
When Spring Arrives
